Rocker/Glider Makeover

Every nursery needs a rocking chair and when you find one for a great deal in the classifieds it is worth it to spend a little extra time to make it really something cute and comfortable.  Both of the cushions are reversible and washable, because we know those cute little babies tend to make some messes. Since the new fabric was duck cloth, I pre-shrunk the fabric by running it through the washer and dryer and ironed it before I cut out my pattern pieces. For this project the easiest way to make the new cushion patterns was to use a seam ripper to take apart the old cushions and use them as a template to cut the new fabric. The old seat cushion foam was in was ruined but I traced the shape out on an egg foam mattress 3 times and sandwhiched them together with the flat sides out to make the same height as the original cushion.  I used a few tack stitches on the edges to keep the foam layers from slipping while covering with the fabric.  As for the finished product, I wanted to increase the depth and interest so I used a combination of complimentary colors and patterns with a hit of extra bold color in the piping.  My favorite detail on the chair is the arm cushions with side pockets to stash some books or ipad for those many long rocking sessions, and sweet dreams for baby.

  1. I like the old style clocks rather than the flowers.
